WVO Heat Tests
Heat plays an important role in obtaining good clean waste vegetable oil. This test attempts to demonstrate this in a controlled fashion. All samples originated from the same source. All samples were heated for a prescribed time to 180F. Samples were drawn hourly. When the small crock pot (47 watts) was originally selected and tested it maintained 120F with water. Sample on the left was 1 hour and the sample on the right was 6 hours. All samples appear to have similar amounts of particulate despite looking very clean when drawn warm.
Found this small crock pot for $1.25 at the thrift store. When I originally tested it with water it maintained 120F. Today with WVO it is maintaining 180F. Maybe I didn't give it enough time to warm up when I tested it. Maybe the oil acts as a heat sink. This is the light box test tube rack I built to hopefully show the samples along side each other.

These are the first six samples. Each have been centrifuged for the same time in the lab centrifuge. Samples start left to right, with the left most sample being heated for only 1 hour. The three samples on the right all appear equally clear. The samples on the left have all been centrifuged. The sample on the right is clear having just been drawn from the heater. It will be centrifuged next. The photo isn't great but the 5 samples on the right are all clear and have remained so overnight.
