VW on WMO
A customer stopped by to show off his his VW diesel dasher converted to run on used motor oil (WMO). The system is very similar to a two tank SVO system... but rather than vegetable oil he's running used motor oil. He collects and centrifuges the oil using a Simple Centrifuge. He did the conversion very on the cheap using parts he salvaged. I believe the only part he purchased was the plate exchanger. He reports that the car run very well on WMO and pulls hills better without smoke. I spent some time pouring over his system and took some pictures. He took me for a ride and I was very impressed.
Nice vintage VW Dasher diesel. Engine compartment. If you look close you can see the plate exchanger to the left for heating the oil, a separate WMO filter, and the valve that switches between the two tanks. The plate exchanger. It uses engine coolant to pre-heat the used motor oil.

The secondary fuel filter (center) for the used motor oil. The filter to the left is the original diesel filter. This is the valve that switches between diesel fuel and used motor oil. He starts up on diesel fuel and then runs on used motor oil once the engine has warmed up. This is the control panel dash board mounted in the car.

This is the used oil fuel tank. I believe it's an 11 gallon tank from a boat. No back seat drivers in his ride... it's all fuel!
